The residents at Central Care Mission have planted a garden to provide fruit, vegetables and herbs for our residents and our neighboring community.

Joining Central Care Mission in this project are the students and faculty members from Valencia College’s Horticulture Department, led by the project coordinator Dr. Javier Garces, Director of Valencia's Horticulture program, and by the University of Florida, led by Ed Thralls, Residential Horticulture and Master Gardener Coordinator. Through their leadership, they are providing educational support to our residents. Our community and students use the garden as an extension of the classroom’s "hands on" learning experience.

The "Garden Project" began in the summer of 2011, with thirty 4’ x 16’ x 1’ raised beds which provided a growing area of 4,600 square feet. Central Care Mission harvested and enjoyed the first fruits of its labor in the form of collard and mustard greens, beans, lettuce, tomatoes and much more. As the garden continues to develop, Central Care Mission has been able to share its excess produce to the nearby community.
